 Facts on Phoenix
During the days you will find the temperature in the high 60’s to low 70’s. In the evenings temperatures can drop into the mid-40’s.
You will be going into a very dry climate with the humidity anywhere from 15% to 25%. Because of the dryer climate it is very important that you take some type of "lip gloss" as chapped lips can be a problem. The girls will want to also take body lotion.
Based on the schedule that you will be keeping in Phoenix, "dressy" clothes are not really necessary. Phoenix is a very casual atmosphere and with most of the events you will be involved in, there will be no real need for evening ware.
Warm clothing: it is important that you do take a warm outer jacket. You will certainly need this on the evenings that you are at Rawhide and on the day that you will be going to the Grand Canyon.
Rawhide: this is an outside event. There is a covered area that is heated but the remaining part of the village is outside. Since you will be outside of Phoenix and near the desert, it will be colder than in the City.
Grand Canyon: you will be going to an elevation that is higher than the city of Denver. Phoenix is at an elevation of approximately 600 feet above sea level while the Grand Canyon is at an elevation of over 6500 feet. In all probability you will see snow at the Grand Canyon and temperatures could be in the low 30’s. It is very important that you do take a warm jacket on the bus for this day trip.
Dress in layers. Make sure that you take a sweater or a sweat shirt or two. By dressing in layers, shirt, sweat shirt possibly jacket, you can "peel" off layers as you get warmer or put additional layers on as you get colder.
Swimming: the pools are heated in Phoenix and with the sun out and the temperatures in the high 60’s there will certainly be those wanting to go swimming . . so, don’t forget a bathing suit. You will also be going to the Kiwanis Wave Pool and a bathing suit will certainly be a "necessary" there!
Leave room: IN YOUR SUITCASE! You will want to bring back souvenirs so it is important to leave a little space in you suitcase.
Liquids: as we have mentioned, you are going to be in a much dryer climate so water is very important in Phoenix. Soft drinks are not to your advantage since they contain sodium. There is no substitute for water so drink plenty of it.
New Year’s Eve Party - this event will be held at the Phoenix North Baptist Church. There will be games, dancing, etc. Dress for this event should be casual. We would suggest a light jacket since the temperature drops after sundown.
