 Projected Fiesta Bowl Activities

Message from Kip Sullivan (Chair, Blue Cross Blue Shield National Championship of Bands):

  • For bands that will be participating in the afternoon performance (2:00 PM or later) and wishing to attend the 11:00 AM block of bands, I would like to ask that you arrive AFTER 10:15 AM as that will give the morning competing bands time to set in their warm-up areas.

  • Many thanks for your assistance

"Kip"

January 1, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Fiesta Bowl National Championship of Bands – Prelims
Featuring some of the nation’s most highly decorated bands, the Band Championship welcomes participants to present their best 10-minute field presentations in front of a panel of judges who critique them on musical performance, visual performance, auxiliary techniques, percussion, drum majors and general overall effect.

This year the Fiesta Bowl National Championship of Band will be held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. This is the brand new stadium and home of the Arizona Cardinals.

PLEASE NOTE: Drum Major Retreat and Announcement of Finalists scheduled to start at 4:00 PM

January 1,  7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Fiesta Bowl National Championship of Bands – Finals

(Note: Pageantry for the Finals will start at 6:30 PM)

Also at the University of Phoenix Stadium, the top 8 bands will perform this evening. Bands from the universities participating in the upcoming Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will also provide special performances.

As one of the Fiesta Bowl’s longest running events, The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship has distinguished itself as one of the most prestigious high school marching band competitions in the country.

January 3, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Fiesta Bowl Parade

Note: actual Parade start time is 11:00 AM. This is the reason for being there! The Parade is usually 1.8 miles long and has very few turns. Very flat area so marching is not difficult. Temperatures can be in the mid-70’s but usually in the 60’s. The Parade is very well attended each year with over 400,000 people, many who are in reserved bleachers and seats. Please see the enclosed copy of last year's routing. This should not change that much for this year.

January 3, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Rawhide Steak Fry

All bands are invited to participate in this activity at Rawhide. Rawhide is patterned after an "Old Western Town" with real Cowboys, hayrides and stage coach rides for the students. There are shops available for any type of souvenir you may wish to purchase. The meal for the band groups is held in a large covered area that can easily hold 5,000 plus people. An excellent evening that your band will enjoy.

December 31: There will not be a New Year's Eve Party for the   2008/2009 Fiesta Bowl
Fiesta Bowl Band Party

For the 2008/2009 Fiesta Bowl Band Events: there will NOT BE A NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY this year, as the Blue Cross Blue Shield National Championship of Bands will be on January 1, 2009. This has been updated on December 5, 2008.
